The concept of the Exquisite Corpse was first in vented by the Surrealists of the early 19th century. Andre Breton, the founder of the surrealist movement, started this as a parlor game called Consequences in which players would write down a portion of a phrase cover most of it and pass it on to the next player. This game is a great platform for collaborative surrealist art production. The cooperation of each player/artist is able to bring their personal style to a group piece without compromising their artistic voice. The exquisite corpse is guided by the concept of metaphoric displacement; the idea that at the end the figure will somewhat resemble a human form. This game is also a great exercise for art students and writers for thinking outside of their proverbial boxes. The level of technique is unimportant because the end product will be disjointed by its nature.
